Week 30 Third Trimester

Some moms may start experiencing frequent indigestion and heartburn, so now is the time to really pay attention to what you eat. As usual, try to eat smaller meals composed of healthy and fresh foods, and drink lots of water. Avoid spicy foods as much as possible.

As in earlier weeks, you may also experience swelling in your face, hands, feet, and ankles because of water retention. Whenever you can, raise your legs or lie down, preferably on your left side. Avoid wearing stockings or elastic-top socks.

If swelling appears overnight, however, call your doctor immediately; the swelling could be an indicator of high blood pressure and preeclampsia.

Your Baby

Your baby’s head is getting bigger and is more in proportion with his body. He will start gaining weight at a rate of 220 grams (or half a pound) per week for the next seven weeks.

His brain is growing day by day. He can now open and close his eyelids and regulate his own body temperature, which is why his body will start shedding lanugo.

The male baby’s testicles move from near the kidneys through the groin en route to the scrotum. If your baby is a girl, the clitoris appears large and exposed, because it is not yet covered by the folds of the skin called the labia.
