Week 16 Second Trimester

You

You may be feeling baby move now, though you might think it’s just gas bubbles.

The good news: you will experience fewer episodes of mood swings and nausea.

The not-so-good news: You may start experiencing nasal congestion, nosebleeds, and bleeding gums because of all those pregnancy hormones; be sure to get plenty of Vitamin C. As your ligaments continue to stretch, you may find your back and belly aching a bit; soothe your muscles with a prenatal massage or a relaxing bath.

Drink plenty of liquids to avoid constipation. And keep your weight gain gradual and healthy.

Your Baby

He is about the size of an avocado now, measuring about 12 cm CR and weighing around 110 grams. Get ready for a growth spurt in the next few weeks—he’s going to double his weight and increase his length.

He’s starting to show more and more how wonderfully human he is—his nails are already well formed, his ears have moved from his neck to his head, and his facial muscles are developed.

Inside his body, his stomach is producing digestive juices and his kidneys are producing urine.
